Update: WCSO releases new details about Plumb Lane incident

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - Update at 3:57 p.m.: The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office is releasing new details about an incident in which 39-year-old Devin Reese barricaded himself inside a home following a police pursuit.

They say that on Thursday morning, they received a call for service to a residence around the 15000 block of Edmands Drive in south Reno.

A caller told the WCSO that they had been assaulted and had their car stolen. They also said that they were familiar with the suspect, identifying him as Reese. The Sheriff’s Office located the car a short time later and initiated a pursuit.

The ensuing pursuit led on to I-580. Due to the suspect’s reckless driving, however, police decided to end the pursuit for public safety.

Hours later, a second pursuit was initiated at the Placer County Sheriff’s Office in California. That pursuit continued eastbound on I-80 into Nevada.

The pursuit was cancelled and local law enforcement observed the vehicle from a distance, allowing Reese to drive as normal. Unmarked units and the RAVEN helicopter were able to locate the vehicle in a Reno neighborhood near the corner of Benjamin Franklin and Plumb Lane where Reese was taken into custody.

He has been charged with:

  • Robbery
  • Grand Larceny of a Motor Vehicle
  • Residential Burglary
  • Domestic Battery
  • Driver Disobeying a Peace Officer

Update at 1:55 p.m.: Police say the suspect’s name is 39-year-old Devin Reese.

Police believe mental health is a factor in this case.

Update at 1:35 p.m.: Reno Police have arrested the suspect who barricaded himself inside his home.

Authorities have now reopened Plumb Lane, however, side streets in the area are still closed.

Update at 12:55 p.m.: The Reno Police Department says they are negotiating with a man who barricaded himself inside his home.

Police say he is armed and mentally unstable. He is also wanted for committing a violent crime in the Reno area.

The suspect fled for California and crossed the state line then came back into Nevada and went to his house on Benjamin Franklin Drive.

Police ordered neighbors to shelter in place unless told to evacuate.

The WCSO is assisting RPD, along with RAVEN, and Nevada and California Highway Patrol units.

The area of Plumb Lane near Benjamin Franklin Drive was closed off around noon Thursday.

The Reno Police Department, Nevada Highway Patrol, Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, REMSA, and RAVEN are on scene.
