Sparks hit-and-run update: Pedestrian was not in a crosswalk

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - OCT. 24 UPDATE: A pedestrian seriously injured in Friday’s hit-and-run in west Sparks was not in a crosswalk and was pushing a shopping cart, the Sparks Police Department said Sunday.

Sparks police released a statement said they are still looking for the driver in the crash at about 5:21 a.m. on Battle Born Way underneath Interstate 80.

Police described the vehicle as black or dark-colored with two doors and possibly with the driver side headlight out. The vehicle should have front-end damage from the crash.

The driver was going north on Battle Born Way at the time of the impact and fled by continuing north on Battle Born Way and turning east on Victorian Avenue.

8:05 A.M. UPDATE: Sparks Police are looking for the driver in a hit-and-run driver that hit a pedestrian early Friday morning.

Witnesses say a small black sedan with the driver’s side headline out was going at a high rate of speed and hit a man. He was taken to the hospital with substantial injuries.

The victim has not been identified. Officers say he was not carrying ID and is believed to be homeless.

The road will remain closed through mid-morning while the scene is investigated.

ORIGINAL STORY: The northbound lanes of Battle Born way are closed as Sparks Police investigate a crash. It happened around 5:20 a.m. Friday.

No information has been released about any injuries.

There is no estimated time of reopening.
