NHP identifies suspect arrested in high speed chase
The man was wanted after an attempted robbery at a Reno Save Mart
RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - UPDATE OCT. 6 NHP investigators say a vehicle involved in a high-speed chase on Tuesday, October 5th was stolen.
Just after 7 A.M., NHP Troopers assisted Reno Police Officers pursuing a green 2005 Honda sedan. The driver was believed to have been involved in an assault with a deadly weapon.
The pursuit reached speeds of up to 110 miles an hour on I-80 eastbound. Lyon County Deputies deployed “stop sticks” near Wadsworth Exit 43 in an attempt to stop the vehicle, but the driver crossed the median and went the wrong way in the west bound lanes.
The Car then went south on SR-427 in Fernley, eventually crossing over into the north bound lanes. Troopers say the driver appeared to steer towards three NDOT workers who ran for cover behind their dump truck.
At US-50A, the car went west bound in the east bound lanes. An NHP Trooper performed a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) to stop the car. A second NHP Trooper blocked the car from the front and a Lyon County Deputy blocked the car from the rear.
Troopers found three people in the car. None were injured.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as Jose Delacruz, 35, was arrested for Reckless Driving (felony), Possession of a Stolen Vehicle (felony), Eluding (felony), three charges for Assault with a Deadly Weapon (felony), Parole Violation out of CA (felony), Reckless Endangerment (gross misdemeanor), Driving Under the Influence (misdemeanor), Possession of Stolen Property (felony), and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (misdemeanor). Delacruz was booked into the Lyon County jail. The two other occupants were released from the scene.
