RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - The Washoe County School District Board of Trustees have approved a plan to fill two vacancies.

Trustee Andrew Caudill is moving out of the area after having accepted a job out of state. Trustee Kurt Thigpen is resigning for medical reasons.

The Trustees agreed that if there are five or fewer applicants, the applicants will all be invited to participate in an interview with the Trustees. Each candidate will also be given five minutes to address the Board.

Each Trustee will submit one question and one back-up question on the Thursday prior to each meeting scheduled to interview candidates for vacant seats. These questions will be used during the candidate interviews.

Trustees also approved proposed questions in the “Invitation to Apply” notices as part of a two-page Letter of Intent for the application packets. Candidates will be given a total of 30 minutes to respond to six questions from Trustees and will be asked to provide an opening and closing statement. Tentative meeting dates for reviewing applications and interviewing candidates are set for July 6, 13, 20, and 26.

The Trustees will hold a regular meeting on July 27. Each meeting is public and will be held in the WCSD Administration Building at 425 E. Ninth St. in Reno. All meetings will be streamed live.
