SUSANVILLE, Calif. (KOLO) -The Lassen County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday it is trying to identify the body found Sunday in an overturned vehicle about 300 feet down California 139 north of Susanville.

There was a brush fire reported north of Hidden Valley Ranch at about 8:45 p.m. on Sunday, the sheriff’s office said.

California Department of Forestry and Fire crews were on scene when deputies arrived. There were skid marks on California 139 and damage to the guardrail with the vehicle below.

Once it was safe, firefighters found human remains inside the vehicle, but deputies were unable to positively identify the body. A tow truck pulled the vehicle up to the highway and the remains were recovered and sent to the Washoe County Medical Examiner’s Office for identification.
